Day 5: Georgia On My Mind

First of all, sorry about the lack of a post last night, once we got to our destination in GA we were beat and neglected to recap our day so I’ll give a brief rundown now. After leaving the IDGC in Augusta/Appling, GA we left for Flyboy aviation on the far side of the state (about an hour west of Atlanta. We were ahead of schedule as we only played one course at the IDGC and decided to tour the building/hit on the girl working in the proshop (I thought I was in love for a few minutes but in hindsight It was just euphoria of the overall experience). We stopped in Douglasville, GA and played a course called "Deer Lick Park." The course was set in a busy public park with athletic fields, walking trails, tennis courts, putt putt, skate park, etc. making the frisbee throwing a little wild. The course was great as it combined short technical shots with some longer open shots. After Deer Lick we headed for the road and arrived at Flyboy Aviation in Whitesburg, GA as the sun was setting.

Flyboy is flat out amazing. First, the community that the Bed and Breakfast is set in is known as a "fly in community." If you are wondering what a "fly in community" is, as I was when I first heard of Flyboy, it is a gated community in which the homeowners own planes and have access to a grass runway which runs through the middle of the houses. If it sounds wild....I have described it correctly. Flyboy itself is what is known as a "hangar house." Imagine an airplane hangar with a house attached to the side, and you get a "hanger house."

Inside, the house is filled with various airplane related items and is honestly one of the coolest places I have ever been. I could talk about it for a long time but as a substitute, here is the link to the B & B: http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/41282 . The owner's name is Kelly, he is a pilot and avid disc golfer who lives in Atlanta and his parents Lillian and Wayne run and live at the Bed and Breakfast. They have been great and have taken very good care of us during our stay here.

As for the course itself, it is a 27 hole beast that has everything a disc golfer could want. There are tight holes that require technical precision, there are HUGE bombs that require tons of distance, and there are several lakes which test both guts and swimming ability. As a group we have played some of the best courses in the world (the Grange, Paw Paw, Maple Hill, etc) and Flyboy ranks right up there with the best, the hospitality of the bed and breakfast would put it at the top of the list in terms of experience for me. After our day we decided that we would stay another night at flyboy and attack the course again tomorrow.

Right Now, Will is sleeping after hitting the hay early; Zac, Lou and I are watching a little tv as we unwind. Reality will be here soon enough, but for now we are spending another night in disc golf heaven, enjoying each other’s company (for the most part), and hoping that we can keep our plastic out of the water tomorrow. We will try and update tomorrow at some point!

Until Then,

Drew (and the other three dudes)
